The Future of ESG: New Series Incoming...
3 Legends, 1 Topic and 1 Big Ask
New Series Loading…
So far I’ve resisted all the comparisons that you have been making between my writing and elite professional sport. Yes, a lot of people have been saying that I am like the Pat Cummins of impact professional newsletter writers; but I must admit, that even the best of us have dips in form.
This week, the words just haven’t been flowing as they should.
For instance, I wrote, and crucially, sent a message that made it sound like I was updating a client mid-wee.

Exhibit A: Form is temporary. Class is permanent.
They must have been amazed at my bladder capacity when it took several more days to get that concept paper.
Anyway, just like elite sport, writing a newsletter is a team game…that’s why I’m so glad to have a few subject-matter experts to be able to bring to the fore, and carry the load over the next few weeks with a series that I’m really excited to share with you.
Ok, look, I’m playing it down. Just quietly, I can’t believe the calibre of humans that responded to my request to interview them, and I do not at all apologise for constantly name-dropping them in conversations over the coming weeks.
Series 1: The Future of ESG
Last month, I had a chat with 3 absolute legends of all things Environmental, Social and Governance and asked them 5 questions about the current state, and future pathways for ESG in corporate Australia.
Over the next month (or so) I’ll be sharing these interviews as a series on the Future of ESG, with a feature newsletter corresponding to each letter of our most-beloved acronym:

Alice is a climate communicator and community builder who works at the intersection of behaviour change, partnerships, and grassroots action. As the founder of Pledge for the Planet, she helps businesses, athletes, and everyday Australians take meaningful steps toward climate solutions.
She’s been featured in Taronga’s HATCH Accelerator Program, and her organisation was selected by Coldplay as the environmental impact partner for the Australia leg of their sold out world tour. We also happen to have a hand-shake agreement that I will run a marathon that I’m desperately trying to weasel my way out of.
Episode 2: | ![]() |
Best known for being my former boss, Tim is also one of Australia’s most respected public voices on ethics, leadership, and social responsibility. Tim served as the long-time CEO of World Vision Australia, where he 10x their program output. He was chosen by the Australian public as one of 100 National Living Treasures, and he has continued to work to uplift vulnerable people in Australia and around the world through his work in community advocacy, most recently as the chief advocate for pokies regulation reform, and as executive director of the international aid collective, Micah Australia.
Episode 3: | ![]() |
Gillian is an international lawyer and human rights advocate with a long career in academia, law, and public leadership. Since becoming special adviser to the Dallas Chief of Police, advising on the implementation of the historic 1964 Civil Rights Act, Gillian has found herself upholding governance structures through some of the world’s most complex challenges - culminating in her most recent term as the Assistant Secretary General at the United Nations, with a special focus on protection for refugees in the face of crises in Ukraine, Sudan, Somalia, Yemen and Venezuela.
One Ask:
I’m stoked with the generosity of these 3 great humans above, to sit down and share with this community. I would love for as many impact professionals as possible to hear what they have to say.
So, if you have a friend, a colleague who is not yet a friend, or a sworn enemy that you want to make amends with, I would love for you to forward them this email and encourage them to subscribe.
